Composed for a 19th-century Viennese “museum of the mind” housing automata, wax figures and even erotic statuary, an early Beethoven work for barrel organ inspired Romanian-French master Marius Constant’s breathtaking concerto for mechanical organ, bursting with originality and expressive power. Poulenc’s ebullient showpiece concludes the season in high spirits.
